February 16, 2017 [Ottawa, ON] – Magpie Jewellery is excited to announce the celebration of its 25th anniversary on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Magpie fans, jewellery lovers and the Ottawa community are invited to come by the all-day festivities at Magpie Westboro (430 Richmond Road) from 10 – 7pm. Enjoy complimentary cocktails, treats from the Cupcake Lounge, get creative in the photo booth, enter to win a bouquet from Bloomfield’s Flowers, plus many other fun surprises.
“We want the city to share in our special milestone,” say Martin Wright, co-owner of Magpie Jewellery. “It’s because of their dedication and support and that of our talented, predominantly Canadian, jewellery designers, that Magpie has become such a staple in the Ottawa community.”
Named Faces Magazine’s 2017 Favourite Jeweller, Magpie has been the go-to spot for uniquely Canadian pieces for years. It is also the only jewellery store in Ottawa that specializes and focuses on local designers. Many will be hosting mini-trunk shows at the various Magpie locations across the city on Saturday, February 25. Meet Open Fire, Strut, Erin Wallace and Caelen Ellis at Magpie Westboro. Chat with Lissa Bowie at Magpie Rideau. See Chayle’s new collection at Magpie Glebe.
“We’re extremely proud of our growing selection of local jewellers,” says Jennifer Stone, Head Buyer of Magpie Jewellery. “There is so much great talent in our community with someone always experimenting with new and innovative designs. It’s a thrill and an honour to bring them on board and watch them evolve.”
According to Wright, the secret to Magpie’s success is a combination of personalizing the jewellery shopping experience for customers while collaborating with other local businesses and staying true to home grown talent.
“All jewellery should be treated with the same dignity and integrity, no matter the price point,” says Wright. “From simple silver neck chains to diamond rings, it’s important our customers have the opportunity to connect with our pieces. We encourage them to hold and try them on, making the experience as personal as possible.”
Magpie is also passionate about its custom work. With an onsite jeweller and goldsmith at the Westboro location, they control every aspect of the design process using reclaimed gold and ethically sourced gemstones. All engagement rings designed by Magpie come with a lifetime warranty.
Unique partnerships and community collaborations are at the core of what makes Magpie beloved in Ottawa. Magpie’s partnership with the Ottawa Art Gallery for “Benchworks” was a huge success. A proud supporter of the Arboretum Festival, the company also makes consistent charitable donations to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Helping Hands and Rideauwood Addictions and Counselling.
“Everyday at Magpie, we do our best to act in a way we believe is responsible to each other, our customers and our community,” says Wright. “We’re looking forward to the next 25 years including the launch of our very own Magpie Signature Jewellery line.”
From truly humble beginnings, Wright began the Magpie journey with $40 and a dream. He had a vision of a shop filled with an abundance of beautiful things. Poetically named “Magpie”, a bird that obsessed with jewellery and shiny objects; Wright himself, a certified gemologist, accredited appraiser and self-proclaimed lover of wildlife and the outdoors.
